Breaking the Mold: Our Approach to Youth Baseball Training

“What would you like to work on today?”

If this is the first thing out of your trainer’s mouth when you arrive at a facility to take a baseball lesson, get out of there.

Youth baseball training has been stuck in the same, ineffective cycle for too long. It’s become far too common (and easy) for trainers and facilities alike to collect your payment, stick you with a trainer whose primary experience is from their own playing days and then leave your athlete’s development to complete chance as you have drills thrown at you without any critical evaluation or thought.

You deserve better! This is why we serve our youth athletes (11-14) with the same data-informed approach we take with our high school, college and pro trainees.

How is Velo Baseball different?

  1. All training sessions are pre-planned and have built-in progression. We don’t just try to keep you busy with different drills.

  2. We invest in our trainers. From certifications to ongoing education our staff is constantly adding skills and knowledge to their coaching toolkit.

  3. We provide measurable feedback and results. Log in to your athlete profile via Driveline’s TRAQ software at any time to view your progress and our training plans. Our whole process is completely transparent and available to you.

  4. You get to train alongside our in-house high school, college and professional athletes. See, firsthand, what it takes to play at the next level.

Track your progress, access reports and videos, communicate with your trainer and more via TRAQ.

What can I expect from my training plan?

As part of your individual training plan, you’ll receive individualized corrective exercises, drill routines and arm care protocols to address weaknesses that were identified through the initial assessment. As you commence your training and make improvements, your training plan, focus and drills will adjust to meet your changing needs. You will also be reassessed on key metrics on an ongoing basis.

How do I track my progress?

At any time, you can log in to your athlete profile and access reports that provide tracking insights. Want to know how much your exit velocity has increased? Or how much your shoulder internal rotation strength has increased? Grip strength? Weight? Height? Anything? Just log in, check your tracking sheets and you will see exact metrics as well as a graph displaying your progress over time.

How do I get started?

Before committing to any training, we require youth athletes to complete an assessment. The assessment is a vital part of our training process as it provides our trainers with information they can leverage when creating a personalized development plan for your athlete. During the assessment, we evaluate:

  • Grip strength

  • Height & weight

  • Mobility (hips, thoracic spine, ankles & shoulder)

  • Strength (shoulder & hips)

  • Throwing velocity (if the athlete is built up enough to do so)

  • Throwing biomechanics via PitchAi

  • Hitting exit velocity

  • Hard hit %

  • Blast Motion swing analysis

Once armed with this information, we’ll send you a report with our key findings and schedule a meeting to sit down and go over the results. This ensures that the parent(s), athlete and trainer are all on the same page and understand what needs to be addressed.
